Why attics are the job nobody wants to do themselves

Attics are awkward: a narrow hatch, a pull-down ladder, no proper floor, low headroom, insulation everywhere and decades of boxes, suitcases, cots, Christmas decorations and old carpet. Getting it all down safely is heavy, dusty work — which is exactly why people call us. Our crew brings the lighting, the dust masks and the patience, and we pass everything down carefully rather than dropping it.

Before a conversion, a sale or a move

Most attic clearances happen for one of three reasons: an attic conversion is planned and the builders need it empty, a house is being sold and the attic has to be cleared before completion, or a family is downsizing and wants to deal with the attic last. In each case we can clear the attic on its own, or as part of a full house clearance.

Care with insulation and old items

We work carefully around insulation, wiring, water tanks and roof timbers, walking only on joists or boards. Old suitcases and boxes are often full of photographs, letters and paperwork, so we sort as we go and set aside anything that looks personal for you to look through.

Attic clearance in Dublin, Kildare and Leinster

We clear attics across Dublin city and county — from period houses in Rathmines, Ranelagh and Drumcondra with tiny hatches and no ladder, to 1970s semis in Tallaght, Lucan and Swords with a folding stairs and a half-boarded floor — as well as throughout Kildare, Laois, Carlow, Kilkenny and Wicklow. Attics are often cleared alongside a full house clearance, but plenty of customers book the attic on its own.

What people keep in attics (and what we do with it)

Every attic tells the same story: baby equipment and cots, boxes of school books and college notes, Christmas decorations, suitcases of old clothes, curtains from three houses ago, the box the TV came in, old computers and printers, carpet offcuts, spare tiles, and paperwork nobody has looked at in twenty years. We bring it all down, separate what can be donated or recycled — cardboard, paper, metal, electricals, textiles — and set aside anything that looks personal or valuable for you to check.

How an attic clearance day works

We arrive with lighting, dust masks, gloves, strong bags and a folding ladder if you don't have one. One person works in the attic passing items down, one or two work below carrying to the truck, and we protect the landing carpet and walls as we go. A typical attic takes two to four hours; a large, very full attic can take most of a day. When we're done, we sweep the boarded areas and hoover the landing.

Recycling attic contents

Cardboard, paper, metal, wood and old electricals are separated for recycling. Usable items — furniture, toys, books, sports equipment — are donated where possible. The rest goes to licensed waste facilities.
